Executive Vice-President of Stuff and Things
Acquire Wisdom New Zealand
Melvin has lived a simple life since he hatched in Masterton, the heart of the beautiful Wairarapa, in New Zealand. Melvin spent his early life thinking about life, his favourite pastime being gazing into the distance being lost in thought. Although occasionally the gaze masked that he was actually empty of thought and was simply being, or as he puts it 'Aming'. Melvin enjoys mindfulness, meditation and mandala. He is the co-author of the first 10 of Acquire Wisdom New Zealand's successful Mandala Art - Mindfulness in Action books.
The Hopi Hand
In the Hopi hand, the spiral represents the universe, or eternity and, when combined with the shape of the hand, the symbol is said to have therapeutic energy.
We use this symbol at Acquire Wisdom New Zealand as a means of representing the continual spiralling learning process towards understanding. Which, with the appropriate application of the gained knowledge, can lead to acquiring wisdom.
